Circulation Policies and Privileges

Circulation privileges are available to students, staff, faculty, alumni and retirees of the Health Science Center, to area health professionals, and to citizens of Texas aged 18 or older who pay for an annual Courtesy Borrowers card.

  1. When a Hold has been placed on an item, no further renewals will be accepted.
  2. Journals may be checked out to eligible borrowers only.
  3. Reserve materials generally circulate for three hours. If checked out within three hours of closing, the materials will be due within one hour of opening the next day.

Returning Materials

Materials may be returned at the Circulation Desk or placed in the Book Drop outside the exit doors. Book drops are also located in the Nursing School, the Student Lounge area and outside the Library building near the entry stairs. Book drops are emptied one hour after opening each morning. Please return reserve materials and audio/visuals inside the Library.

Fines

Materials not returned by the due date and time will accrue fines:

  • Books, journals and audio/visual material fines are $0.50 per day
  • Reserve material fines are $1 per hour
  • Users’ privileges are suspended if fines exceed $15

Fines will not be waived for the following reasons:

  • Late or non-receipt of courtesy overdue notices
  • Failure to notify the library of a change of address
  • Items were lent to someone else who returned it late or failed to return it
  • Items were renewed after the due date
  • Vacation
